Bleaching
Bleaching timber floors is a specialized technique used to lighten the wood’s natural color or to correct inconsistencies in tone before applying a stain. This process typically involves using a wood bleach solution, often containing hydrogen peroxide or oxalic acid, to break down the pigments in the wood.
The floor must first be thoroughly sanded to open the wood’s pores, ensuring the bleach can penetrate evenly. Once applied, the bleach is allowed to react with the wood for a specified period, which can vary depending on the desired level of lightening. After the bleach has been thoroughly rinsed and dried, the floor is sanded again to remove any residues and ensure an even surface.
This preparation creates a neutral base, allowing subsequent staining to achieve a more consistent and accurate color. Bleaching is particularly useful for achieving lighter shades or for correcting uneven staining, ensuring that the final finish meets aesthetic expectations.
